Spring has Sprung!!

Many of us don’t replace our toothbrush head every 3 months like our dentist recommends!

It doesn’t matter how many times we see the faded worn bristles, the second we put that brush down, we often forget our intention to change it!

There are several reasons on why we need to change our toothbrush or toothbrush head is because when toothbrushes are made, the nylon bristles are first cut to the same height, leaving sharp, jagged edges. The end of each bristle is then rounded into a soft dome to make them less abrasive and to ensure that they don’t scrape away enamel or gum tissue. As you brush, the bristles return to their original jaggedness, which can cause gum recession and may wear away the enamel on your teeth.

By changing your brush head every 3 months this will help to prevent bacteria from building up in the bristles, affecting not only your oral health but also and general well being as a bathroom can be a hotbed for bacteria, particularly if you are prone to flushing the toilet with the toilet seat up!!

Another reason to change that toothbrush or toothbrush head is that a worn-out brush just doesn’t clean your teeth well which can lead to cavities and other damaging side effects as the splayed bristles of a worn-out toothbrush bend away from teeth while brushing, stopping their fine tips from reaching  in between teeth and gums, therefore hindering the core reason for brushing!

A great time to incorporate a change of toothbrush or toothbrush head is at the beginning of each season throughout the year, this along with your regular dental checkups and cleans by the team at Australia Dental Burpengary Dr Terry, Dr Jennifer and Dr Neil!

We look forward to seeing you soon and for easier convenience we now have online bookings!
