IT’S ALL ABOUT THE IMPRESSION

THIS

OVER THIS?

LET US TELL YOU WHY!

What is an impression?

Traditional Dental Impressions: The technician uses an impression material called alginate or rubber, which is placed in the patients mouth. The material is left there for a few minutes, then removed, and a mold of the teeth will be made.

Digital Dental Impressions: The computer scans the patient’s teeth and takes multiple photos of their teeth which are then used to create a 3D model of their smile. This technology gives dentists and lab technicians more precise measurements than ever before.

Why Do Digital Impressions Outweigh Traditional Impressions?

1. Saves Plastic

Traditional Impressions can use materials such as plastic in the material itself or within its tray used to hold the material. This constant use of plastic from multiple dental clinics all around the world slowly builds up

2. Accuracy

Digital impressions are much more accurate as they are taking photos of exactly what is seen in the mouth and there is no accidental impression left of air bubbles or accumulation of saliva. This ultimately limits the need for re-impressions.

3. Time

There is no postal or fright delay for digital impressions. Unlike traditional impressions they can be sent online. this eliminates the time and costs associated with post and freight. It also limits the amount of time needed for patients next appointments meaning we are able to get treatment completed sooner and more efficiently.

While traditional impressions are still commonly used, recently digital impressions have been implemented in many dental offices around the world. Modern scanners can quickly create 3D models which all the detailed information needed to accurately create the restoration that is needed for modern cosmetic dentistry such as crowns, veneers and implants.
